1004 W. Nevada
From U of I Wiki
1004 W. Nevada is an apartment building located on 1004 W. Nevada in Urbana, IL. Originally purchased by the Fraternity Beta Sigma Psi in 1959. Then later converted into apartments in 1971. The apartment was scheduled to be demolished in May of 2007 to make way for a new commercial center in Urbana. On June 11, 2007 the building was finally torn down.
1004 has never been a standard college apartment. Aside from its various incarnations as fraternity and sorority housing, it became better known in recent years as a large, converted apartment building. Since the late 1990s, it has been a gathering place for faithful Illini. Apartment 1 has been passed on for 10 years by members of the trombone and other sections in the University of Illinois Marching Illini. The rotating residents were dedicated to providing numerous social events, including movie nights, Illini sporting event watch parties, College Republican and Students for Chief BBQs, and the infamous 1004 parties for the marching band. Alumni have been so curious as to the band's passion for the house, that graduates from 20 plus years have come back just for the experience. Though not directly affiliated with the Marching Illini, 1004 will have a place in the hearts of the marching band and many other non-bandos for generations to come.
