21 Quad

21 Quad is one of the campus bus routes offered by the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District. The route offers five-minute service from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm on fall and spring school days and seven-minute service on the same days from 4:30 to 7:17 pm.

[edit] Route and Stops
The route starts at the Pennsylvania Avenue Residence Halls and the Florida Avenue Residence Halls. It stops briefly at Maryland and Pennsylvania on its way to campus. The second stop is on Dorner drive, near the tennis courts, and the third stop is Allen Hall and the Campus Recreation Center East. The bus then proceeds down Gregory Drive, stopping at Freer Hall, the Institute for Genomic Biology, and the Main Library. The bus travels north on Sixth Street and east on Armory to stop north of the Main Library, near Gregory Hall.
The route travels north, parallel to the Quad, and stops at the Transit Plaza, near the English Building, Henry Administration Building, and the Illini Union Bookstore. Beyond Green Street the bus stops at Everitt Lab and the corner of Green and Springfield, near Kenney Gym and another tennis court. The bus will pull off the road to board and unload passengers at Grainger Library. It turns south on Goodwin with two stops between Springfield and Green before turning on Green momentarily to continue south on Mathews. It will stop twice on Mathews: Halfway House, near Noyes Laboratory, and Davenport Hall. It heads east on Nevada for a moment, stopping near the Delta Gamma sorority house.
It backtracks on Gregory Drive after a stop at Bevier Hall. It again stops at Allen Hall and near the corner of Dorner and Peabody. It will loop around P.A.R. and end its route, where it will sometimes wait before beginning another loop around the Quad.
[edit] Usefulness and Controversy
The 21 is undoubtedly among the most useful bus routes for residents of Pennsylvania Avenue Residence Halls and Florida Avenue Residence Halls, particularly those in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or other colleges with classes on the Main Quad and engineers with classes on the Bardeen Quad. The 21 has a tendency to wait until it is full before departing P.A.R.-F.A.R.; this is problematic to students living at Allen Hall or Lincoln Avenue Residence Hall who wish to board.

During university break periods and the summer session the Quad area is served by the 21 Quad Limited. The route is slightly different and offers twenty-minute service, compared to the five- or seven-minute service of the 21 Quad.

The Quad offers no service on Saturday and Sunday.
