Business Instructional Facility
From U of I Wiki
The Business Instructional Facility is a four-story, 18-classroom academic building on the Urbana-Champaign campus. The building opened for students in the fall 2008 semester, but its official opening ceremony was on October 17, 2008.
Construction
The building will be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified in 2008. The environmental measure could cut energy use by fifty percent. Some of its environmentally friendly features:
- Roof-mounted solar panels
- Photo sensors that detect movement to save electricity
- Gravity-based ventilation and air-conditioning system
- Drought-resistant roof plantings for insulation
Architect and Illinois alumnus Cesar Pelli designed the building. The American Institute of Architects named Pelli one of the nation's 10 most influential living architects. Public donors funded the facility, which cost $60 million. No state money was used.
Tour
Urbana-Champaign campus student Ashton Clark recorded a YouTube video for the Illinois Admissions blog, showing some of the building's features and architecture.
Clark recorded another video for the building's grand opening.
