Campus Recreation Center East
Campus Recreation Center East or CRCE is one of the two indoor recreational facilities at the University of Illinois, the other being Activities and Recreation Center. CRCE is located at 1102 W. Gregory Dr. in Urbana, in between Freer Hall and Allen Hall. During the years the University had IMPE (now ARC), CRCE was known as "Wimpe" prior to a huge renovation and expansion made to the facility. However, after the large renovation in 2004, the building eventually lost the name "Wimpe" and students now call it CRCE (pronounced sir-see). CRCE has also gained large popularity during the two year period where the majority of ARC was under construction.
The facility has 110,000 square feet of activity space which includes the following:
- Aquatic Center with temperature controlled leisure pool (for water exercise, jogging, and rehab/therapy), waterslide, zero-depth entry, bubble benches, volcano-fountain, waterfall and 12-person spa
- Seasonal deck space off the Aquatic Center
- Full men's and women's locker room with family changing area
- 3-court gymnasium just off the lobby
- Multi-Activity Court Gym with dasher boards for indoor soccer, volleyball, basketball and more
- 2 Multi-purpose rooms for Group Fitness sessions and group activities
- 3 racquetball courts (one adjustable for squash play)
- 10,000 square foot fitness area with state-of-the-art cardio and free weight equipment
- 3-lane indoor track overlooking the gym and Aquatic Center, encompassing the fitness area
