The Champaign County Freedom Celebration is the organization in Champaign which prepares the Fourth of July parade, 5K Race/Walk, and fireworks. The 5k race/walk follows the same path as the parade. The route starts at Assembly Hall on Fourth St, heads north to Kirby, then east over to Lincoln Ave. Then the route heads north up Lincoln to Nevada, at this point the runners turn around and go the reverse direction. After the 5K, the parade starts along the same route. Many groups march in the parade to celebrate their American heritage. Lastly, the fireworks show occurs at dusk at Dodds Park near Parkland College. In addition to the fireworks, a live band plays music for all the attenders.
