College Corner
From U of I Wiki
College Corner will be a 24-story, 256-foot, 110-unit apartment complex on the Urbana-Champaign campus. It is currently under construction.
Construction work is by Campus Acquisitions L.L.C. of Champaign, and Roland Realty will manage the building upon completion in August 2008.
Businesses will compose the first floor, and 219 parking spaces will compose the second through seventh floors. The eighth floor will house a fitness center, which will include a 750-square-foot, outdoor terrace swimming pool, a hot tub and exercise room.
Units will be either four-bedroom/two-bathroom or two-bedroom/one-bathroom. Amenities include:
- Rooftop deck
- Lounge room
- Flat-panel television sets
- Broadband Internet access
- On-site security
College Corner will occupy the site of the former Burger King location in Campustown at 309 E. Green St. in Champaign. The building is expected to be taller than the Tower at Third, making it the tallest structure on campus. Because of its size, and in perhaps reverence to the former Burger King restaurant location, city officials dubbed College Corner "the whopper."
The building permit application lists the building at a cost of $21 million.
