Commencement

Commencement is the campus-wide graduation ceremony at the Urbana-Champaign campus. The university holds two commencement ceremonies, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to accommodate the large number of graduation candidates.
Convocation is the college- or unit-wide graduation ceremony.
Students can attend.
Speakers
The 2007 commencement speaker was Jawed Karim, co-founder of the social video website YouTube and University of Illinois alumnus. Karim earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the university in 2004.
