Illini Orange Snackbar
From U of I Wiki
The Illini Orange Snackbar, more popularly known as the "Illini Orange" or simply the "Orange," is a 47-year-old building near the Gregory Drive Residence Halls. Its role has changed during its existence, functioning as a McDonald's restaurant location, a convenience store, a billiards hall and a mail pick-up location. It is scheduled to be demolished in July 2007 in a $75.7 million construction project to construct Stanley O. Ikenberry Hall, a student dining and residential programs building, a component of the Stanley O. Ikenberry Commons.
The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District's 26 Pack student bus route stop at the snackbar will be relocated, and the student activities will move to the Lincoln Avenue Residence Hall.
Signs reading "Goodbye to the Orange, Hello to a Brand New Building" were posted before the building's demoltion. Seventy-five percent of the Illini Orange Snackbar's materials will be recycled. The Illini Orange Snackbar's address is 301 E. Gregory Drive in Champaign.
A construction worker broke one of the Illini Orange's gas mains on July 3, 2007. Champaign and Urbana fire fighters were dispatched to repair the leak where nearby residents could smell the gas and were instructed to stay indoors.
