McKinley Health Center
From U of I Wiki
McKinley Health Center serves health service to the students at the University of Illinois. McKinley is located at 1109 S Lincoln Ave in Urbana, just south of Lincoln Avenue Residence Hall and north of Illini Grove. All students pay for McKinley as part of the enrollment free which provides the funds to prepay many health care needs.
Services
Visits are free and appointments can usually be made the same day, if not, always by the next day. McKinley provides several things online, including appointments and test results. There is a 24 hour dial-a-nurse service which allows students to speak with a health care professional. There is a pharmacy service which provides little or no cost to medications. Additionally, the center has a branch dedicated to athletic services which includes injuries and nutrition. Regarding emergency care, students are instructed to rely on the Champaign-Urbana hospitals, Carle and Provena, because McKinley only provides non-emergency health care.
Controversy
There are several rumors around campus that the service at McKinley is very poor and that going to McKinley is either a lost cause or will even cause more serious health problems. These rumors have led to the nickname, "Mc Kill Me."
