Orange and Blue Observer
From U of I Wiki
The Orange and Blue Observer, sometimes abbreviated as "OBO," is a student newspaper publication on the Urbana-Champaign campus that focues on conservative, classically liberal and libertarian ideals at the university. The newspaper's members believe that it acts as forum against liberal and socialist voices on campus.
Recent editor-in-chiefs include Leo Buchignani, Alex Hajduk, Acton Gorton, Erin Jones, and Jonathan Hasman
The circulation of the print edition is claimed to be 5,000 copies but is often much fewer. Private grants, donations and subsidies from the university finance the newspaper. The largest contributor has been the Collegiate Network (CN), a subsidiary of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), a conservative think-tank.
A common source of confusion is that the Orange and Blue Observer raffled off firearms on the student campus; however, the Illini Conservative Union conducted the raffle in conjunction with the newspaper. The Illini Conservative is run by students, most of whom are Orange and Blue staff members. However, this decision created considerable division amongst the staff.
The newspaper began publication in 1991.
